Brownstoner Poll: Tie between Owens and Yassky

With the usual caveat about online polls and their self-selected, non-representative respondents, here comes the latest indicator that David Yassky may have blown over a million dollars, with nothing to show for it except a ruined career and the hostility of the entire New York Democratic establishment.

From the Brooklyn Record:

11th Congressional District
Total Respondents = 400
David Yassky - 28.8%
Chris Owens - 26.8%
Yvette Clarke - 8.0%
Carl Andrews - 6.2%
Undecided - 30.2%

Data provided by the source makes clear that this sample is much whiter and wealthier than the remainder of the district, but that's the rub. David Yassky needs to win overwhelmingly in the white part of the Eleventh District to avoid losing badly. With only a bit under a third of the vote (after having spent over a million clams on mailings, etc.), statistically tied with Chris Owens (whom I support), a third of voters undecided, and no support whatsoever in the black sections of the district, Mister Yassky, Esquire, is critically underperforming.

Not a good place to be with four days to go.

undecideds too high

I'm sorry but a poll with thirty percent or more undecided is basically meaningless, you have almost a third of the voters not weighing in! No responsible pollster would ever make any conclusions whatsoever based on results where undecideds polled that high, let alone that Yassky by leading in the poll somehow has the hostility of the entire new york democratic establishment and a ruined career forhcoming! . Also this poll wouldn't seem to include Crown Heights, not the "white" part of the district, but nevertheless where Yassky will likely be getting a heavy hasidic jewish vote. Look I support Chris and I hope Yassky loses too, but your negative feelings toward the man now seem to border on the irrational

Who are the best candidates?

I think Chris Owens is clearly the best candidate and deserves to win. But Yassky is also clearly the second best candidate. I understand the reasons some people want to dismiss his candidacy out of hand, but no sane person should prefer a compulsive liar (Clarke) or a corrupt political machine hack who has taken bribes and benefits from cronyism his whole career (Andrews) over either Owens OR Yassky. The district deserves better than either Clarke or Andrews winning this seat, they are clearly substantially inferior candidates to Owens or Yassky.

Bouldin I hope you aren't saying that no matter how many times Clarke lies about her credentials, and no matter how many bribes, kickbacks and other favors Andrews takes from the Clarence Normanites, that those two are still more qualified than Yassky for the seat simply by their being born with the "right" skin color?
