Ed Towns oversells himself
Rock Hackshaw writes here:
Last Wednesday 23rd July, 2008, the House of Representatives passed legislation H.R.3221 which moves in the direction of securing the affordability status of the development. The bill was introduced by congressman Ed Towns. [Emph. added]
Congressman Towns didn't introduce any of the seven versions of H.R. 3221, variously known as The Foreclosure Prevention Act of 2008, The Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 and The American Housing Rescue and Foreclosure Prevention Act of 2008.
Rather, as the bill summary makes clear, the Act was introduced by Speaker Pelosi, with eighteen co-sponsors, none of whom happen to be Ed Towns. The co-sponsors were, per the Congressional Record, Representatives Becerra, Clyburn, DeLauro, Dingell, Emanuel, Gordon, Hoyer, Lantos, Larson, Markey, Miller, Oberstar, Peterson, Rahall, Rangel, Van Hollen, Velasquez and Waxman.
There were two co-sponsors of the bill from New York, Members Rangel and Velasquez respectively. Towns voted for the bill, but that's somewhat short of claiming the measure of credit he seems to want to acquire.

Don't blame Rock...
...blame Towns. I'm pretty sure this little oopsie didn't occur to Rock.

et tu Frenchie ( Bouldin) /LOL.
I was given a press release that was not finished (in fact I was semi-chewed out by the press person for rushing it/lol); but in order to get my story out in a timely manner, I linked the release after I did my intro (Hillary). I assumed the contents were vetted. If they weren't it's my bad; but let me assure all that this was not done deliberately. I will get to the bottom of this.

FOLLOW UP.
This inadvertent mix up is strictly my fault. IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CONGRESSMAN (TOWNS)HIMSELF DIRECTLY. The bill that Congresman Towns introduced is HR.#5937. He did not introduce HR.#3221. To the sharpies like the "french-man" (Bouldin), my apologies are in order. Take care.

TY MOLE.
Thank you MOLE. All I can say is that from now on the "Frenchman" better know that I am scouring his columns with my fine-tooth comb/LOL (if I can find it).

it's good to see..........quality control.
It is good to see that our guys are staying on top of what is posted here. The fact-checkers must be smiling today, and I guess that's what you call:"quality control". LOL.
Some facts
Ed Towns did indeed introduce HR5937, on May 1, 2008. Six days later, the House passed the bill, 345-73. It was then sent to the Senate, where it has languished in the "Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs" committee (Chris Dodd, Chair) since then.
This is not one of the 35 bills being held up by Tom Coburn (R-OK), and that Harry Reid is trying to wrest from Coburn's grasp (note: the vote on that attempt, which requires 60 "yes" votes, failed 52-40, but Reid will try again after the August recess). I'm not sure why a bill that passed the House quickly and overwhelmingly (even most Republicans voted for it) would stall in the Senate; perhaps the bill just passed (H.R. 3221) has overridden Towns' bill.
More to come as the answers become available.

Rock!
I'm disappointed!
