Opus Dei – so gay, gay, gay

OK, so everyone and their pet has by now read Dan Brown's "The DaVinci Code". Yes, I admit, I have as well. Since the movie is coming out these days, there's a new spike in interest in the DaVinci Code – including in one of the locations of the plot, the Manhattan digs of Opus Dei. Even New York Magazine got in on the act, talking to some of the young, chiseled and avowedly celibate adherents of Opus Dei in their sex-segregated dorm.

“I can deal with telling some girls, ‘I’m sorry, I don’t put myself in that situation,’ says Hoff. He was in Sigma Chi at UCLA and says that in some ways, being a numerary is like never leaving the frat house. “It’s a blast,” says Keefe. Hoff plays guitar, and the guys have sing-alongs (“Hotel California” and “Cheeseburger in Paradise” are favorites). “I know it sounds campy, but it’s not,” Keefe insists. They go out for beers sometimes: “I mean, I still have fun,” says Hoff. “You just can’t do everything you want.”

But what about the parts in The Da Vinci Code where the albino villain chants “Pain is good” while wearing a spiked cilice (a wire band worn around the thigh) and lashes himself violently with a rope? For these guys, it’s apparently less hard-core: two hours of barbed-cilice time a day, and the rope used for weekly “discipline” during prayer is really quite dainty. Mostly they engage in “spiritual mortifications” as a reminder of Christ’s suffering.

Dudes. There are Jeff Stryker movies that are less obviously gay. Sing-alongs of "Hotel California"? Sex-segregated dorms where you're surrounded by other sex-starved young men? Weekly beatings with a dainty rope? And you use "campy" in a sentence?

Hello Mary? Can you come out now, please?

Is the world ready for the Truth yet?

The Vatican is proving that seeking the truth is a real threat to their dogma. They're so afraid of people uncovering the truth, that they are attacking another fantasy as a threat to their own deceptions. How enlightening, since this goes a very long way to proving that Christianity is based on lies. If it wasn't, they would be confident of surviving intense scrutiny. Since they aren't and since they have gone to such great lengths to suppress those seeking the truth over the centuries, their deceptions are, once again, laid bare for all to see. Only this time they are the ones to walk into a well laid trap...

Did you ever stop to think what the True Messiah (me) would say about worshipping false names, false images, and dogma? Well, now you get the chance to hear my side of the story and weigh it against the strong delusion of faith and religion. None of the European names and images in the New Testament can possibly be the truth. What then is the purpose of "faith" but to prevent good people from seeking to understand truth and wisdom?

Visit my website to understand what they are truly afraid of. The Vatican and world leaders have struggled to keep people from understanding the truth and religion is a key tool in their smokescreen. Now, when I appear on the scene, everyone is seeking to understand their ages-old deceptions, and I have produced stunning and comprehensive proof. Visit my website, read my articles, and download a FREE copy of my book. The time has come for the "earth to quake" and the liars to "gnaw their tongues for pain." (symbolism decoded in the book)

Can you spell Karma...

Here is Wisdom!!

Impostor!

You're not the messiah, you heretic - unless you're Oprah Winfrey, that is.

Bouldin, With Whom Do You Have the Bigger Issue

Bouldin, you seem to have issues with both homosexuals and the Catholic church. With whom do you have the bigger issue?

Bouldin's picture

Sorry honey...

...but I belong to both churches, as it were.

Nice try, though.

Contributing to the Catholic Church/Membership

How have you contributed to the Catholic Church recently?

P.S. Membership in an institution doesn't give you a license to unfairly criticize it.

mole333's picture

Is THAT What it's All About?

Being a good Catholic is all about contributing to the Church? Are we back to the era of indulgences? A Pay-to-pray system?

And here I have been told it's all about love and forgiveness...but then again, I'm Jewish so you all seem like wayward children to me : -)

Anonymous Coward's picture

Contributing

A frequent metaphor for the Church is that of a pilgrim. We, collectively, and as individuals are supposed to try to get somewhere - in particular, heaven, but while we're here on earth we should want to arrive at a better version of our individual selves. Like real life travellers, sometimes some of us need help to keep us going (encouragement, medical attention, monetary assistance, etc.) Thats what I'm talking about when I say "contributing." I would imagine the Central Synagogue didn't repair itself after its fire. I imagine it had/has some benefactors. It seems to me that we can say that the people who donated money to rebuild that synagogue contributed to their religion. Make sense now?

mole333's picture

Yes but....

Well, that may be right in some cases, but...

You are implying that people too poor to contribute are somehow less of the faith than those who can contribute. You may not mean to imply that, but you do. Second, Catholic history in particular has been famous for very immoral people donating a great deal to the church and the church forgiving them of all sins without requiring that they stop being immoral.

So your point, though correct up to a point, has flaws at both ends and doesn't seem to relate directly to the diary.

Bouldin's picture

Feh.

Ever heard of the First Amendment, pal? Newsflash: even you don't need Monsignor's permission to say or do anything whatsoever. And speaking of the men of the cloth, how is that little pedophilia problem coming along? Still being swept quietly under the Apostolic Throne?

Try using your membership in an organization to stop the moral leprosy afflicting it. Report back when you're done.

Anonymous Coward's picture

Simple Question

Why can't you answer a simple question? You brought up your affiliation with the Catholic church, not me.

Bouldin's picture

Wrong.

You asked me how I mustered the effrontery to criticize holy mother church by mocking one of her, cough, lay orders. I gave you your answer.

Then you asked me what I had done recently to deserve the right to such mockery. Again, you got your answer.

So where is this disquisition going? At which point am I going to be told I have no right to criticize, let alone laugh about uproariously, the church?

Take your time, by all means.

With all the people AG Spitzer screwed in the business community - entire industries - can't you imagine a groundswell of folks out there eager to see him pay for his crimes?
