So Mel Gibson walks into a bar

With all the talk recently about how it's anti-Semitic to run against Jewish politicians, or to think that maybe Istael's bombing of civilians is a bad thing, no less a household name than Mel Gibson came forward to to remind us of what anti-Semitism actually looks like.
A Los Angeles Sheriff's deputy busted the Road Warrior in his 2006 Lexus going 87 mph in a 45 mph zone, shortly after 2:30 a.m. Friday. A bottle of tequila was found in his car.
Gibson tested at an 0.12 percent blood-alcohol level, cops said. California law considers drivers at 0.08 percent to be impaired.
Gibson, 50, has apologized for making "despicable" remarks during his arrest, during which he allegedly said, "Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world," before asking arresting Deputy James Mee, "Are you a Jew?"
A leaked sheriff's report showed Gibson was originally cooperative and fearful about his impending arrest, blurting out, "My life is f- - -ed."
But the actor soon turned combative. He threatened the arresting cop that he'd "get even with me," the deputy said.
"I'm going to f- - - you. You're going to regret you ever did this to me," the actor allegedly told deputies. That's when Gibson allegedly let loose with a series of anti-Semitic slurs, ripping the "f- - -ing Jews."
Mee yesterday said he hopes Gibson gets the help he needs.
Gee, maybe all that talk about Gibson's movie - "The Passion of the Christ", which showed hook-nosed Jews plotting and then gloating over the death of Jesus - being anti-Semitic wasn't so far off the mark, eh?

i guess the apple doesnt
i guess the apple doesnt fall far from the tree for Mel Gibson. Now that we know the Passion of the Christ was directed by a known anti-Semite, how can one think that the stereotypical Jewish depictions were not intended. And by the way, I am jewish and dont agree with everything that Israel does.
Mel Gibson
Nobody who has seen "Passon of the Christ" should be the least bit surprised by Gibson's booze-fueled remarks. That movie was blatantly anti-semitic and I found it appalling how many in the press were willing to ignore it because it was a movie about Jesus and Mel "Mr. movie star" Gibon was directing it. Mel Gibson's dad, for those who don't know, is a very vocal far right wing holocaust denier. Like father like son right?
I refused to see the movie
I have friends who described it as a high-budget snuff film, horrendously pornographic in its violence. It does not shock me a bit. I think catholicism does that to you --it is a religion based on dominance and submission. And it is a profoundly anti-semite religion.
I will be writing soon about my experience coming back to NYC as a transfer student to NYU. I was roomed with a conservative jewish girl who kept kosher. I had no idea that my upbringing was engineered to make me obliviously anti-semite.
Catholicism ... urgh. Don't get me started.
Mel Gibson's catholicism
Mel Gibson isn't a catholic in the sense of most catholics. He is actually staunchily ANTI-Vatican at this point. Mel has used some of his many millions to finance a new church out in california, he calls it a "traditional" catholic church. By that a church that rejects the second Vatican Council of the 1960's as evil liberal heresy, and thus why rejects the Vatican because it approved those changes. As a result, the services at his church are done entirely in latin.
The basic tenets of "traditional" (pre-Vatican council) catholics is staunch belief that non-Catholics (that means not only Protestants and Anglicans, but Orthodox and other separated Eastern Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus and on and on) are inherently evil and cannot be saved. So Mel isn't just anti-semitic, that only scratches the surface.
True
Rwallnerny is right; there are different kinds of catholicism, and Mel belongs to a weird sub-sect. They think saying the Mass in English is already too liberal. Seriously.
