War with Iran - do the Democrats understand what's about to hit them?
Every day, there are new hints indicating that the Bush administration is planning an attack on Iran. ThinkProgress delivers, via CNN, the chilling news that war plans have been delivered to the White House.
In the way that these things are done, that does not mean plans were delivered for discussion. They were delivered for a signature.
Just now on CNN, Air Force Col. Sam Gardiner (Ret.) said, “We are conducting military operations inside Iran right now. The evidence is overwhelming.â€
Gardiner, who taught at the U.S. Army’s National War College, has previously suggested that U.S. forces were already on the ground in Iran. Today he added several additional new points:
1) The House Committee on Emerging Threats recently called on State and Defense Department officials to testify on whether U.S. forces were in Iran. The officials didn’t come to the hearing.
2) “We have learned from Time Magazine today that some U.S. naval forces had been alerted for deployment. That is a major step.â€
3) “The plan has gone to the White House. That’s not normal planning. When the plan goes to the White House, that means we’ve gone to a different state.â€
It's very impolite to say so, but it sure does look as if George Bush is getting ready to attack another country just in time for midterm elections which his party presently stands assured of losing. Using the same logic, Bush and Cheney pushed the votes on the Iraq War to just before the 2002 elections, which were also looking quite grim for his party.
There are some tantalizing clues that the strategy - call it what it is, Wag the Dog with live ammo - could work this time, too. Following his recent terror speeches, reports Pollster.com, Bush is inching up just a bit in the polls. What the effect would be of a real live war - with the usual "rally round the flag" impulse of Americans being triggered - nobody knows.
All I can say is that the Democrats had better start working on what they plan to do; a well-timed war could be just what saves George Bush's ass this time around, too.

got any solutions yourself?
got any solutions yourself? didnt hink so.
but why do the left freak out everytime they hear about "war plans". lmao. are you guys that ignorant to how these things work? yep.
hello. the military always is making war plans, especially in hot spots because you never know what will happen. if Iran did something tommorow and Bush didnt have a war plan, you people would scream he was not on his job.
Well...
I think we have some very good reasons for distrusting Bush when it comes to war. After all, he lied his ass off to get us into the war in Iraq, he let that war turn into a nasty quagmire and civil war where out soldiers die for no obvious gains except for the war profiteering of Halliburtin, and he screwed up the war in Afghanistan (after initial success). So, in all honesty, I don't trust this foolish president to do ANYTHNIG right.
Haha!
...yet another wingnut who doesn't understand how the military works. Reminds me of that guy from Fossella's office I saw at the street fair with the Army recruiting booth; almost comical how the young gentleman managed to stay away at least fifty feet at all times, despite being of prime recruitment age.
This is Imperialism
This is really about Imperialism. The prime aftershock of 9/11 and the war on terror, is that the far right now thinks that the only way we can be safe in america is to expand our empire. They have become modern imperialists, because they think the only way we can ever be secure now is to control the key places in the world. So we have to control the oil fields, we have to control the weapons, we have to control the money. That is the mentality.
Now they want to conquer countries and turn them into puppet democracies who will not build weapons and will behave like grateful puppies who will stay on the leashes the U.S. will hold and behave. Not only will we invade Iran, but I fear there is a very realistic chance of a second Korean war, where we attempt to nuke or otherwise seriously bomb and debilitate North Korea. I think the Bush administration would also love to invade/conquer Venezuela and put away dictator Hugo Chavez, whom Donald Rumsfeld recently called "the new Hitler" (note Venezuela has oil fields too)
The only way to stop this right wing imperialist agenda is to get the republicans out of office. There are high stakes indeed in 2008.

It's worth reviewing.
