UPDATE: GORE GONE; Cancel -- Al Gore NOT In NYC Tomorrow for Moveon.org; 12:30 PM
MOVEON.ORG has just cancelled this event. Bumpier than most Moveon.org events.
Moveon.org has announced that Al Gore will be in NYC tomorrow at 12:30 PM for a "major speech" about global warming. Ever since the end of his Presidental Camapign Gore has been transformed from a wooden indian to a man on fire. This speech is worth a detour.
Gore and MoveOn
Gore has a long-standing relationship with MoveOn. When he first decided to make a set of political speeches after the stolen 2000 election, he chose to do it to MoveOn.org's membership. I was lucky enough to hear him twice: once opposing the Iraq war BEFORE we invaded, and once on global warming (his first draft, as it were, of what became his movie).
Gore is not afraid of appearing with MoveOn. This is his prferred milieu to give speeches and does so regularly. He really kicks ass, too. His global warming speech even won over a friend who voted Nader in 2000. She was blown away.
Moveon does not tell; only a "scheduling conflict"
apology from Gore's office. Gore has spoken for Moveon five or six times in my memory. This was billed as a global warming annoucement. Perhaps it will recur. If the Al Gore of the last six years runs for President, I'm for him; if the automaton who pretended to run in 2000, announces, I'd even prefer Mrs. Clinton.
I doubt Gore runs if Hillary does
I seriously doubt Gore will run if Hillary does. They are friends and share too much of the same legacy/history, and Gore would find it distasteful to see "Clinton vs. Gore" in the primary. I can see him running if she doesn't though.

Why this was canceled
When I first heard this event was scheduled, my first thought was "Gore and Move On? Does this mean he's running or making plans to run?" I think a lot of folks probably thought the same thing, and that Gore probably canceled when he realized the event would have more political overtones than he might have liked.
