Born To Shop But Hate To Spend?

Are you, like me, a bottom feeder? Are you always on the look out for a bargain? Does the term "full price" make you nauseous? Then, I have some news for you. Three sales, going on now can make the late summer of your discontent, glorious shopping.

Ends Tuesday The sale which will likely end on Tuesday Sept. 11. is at The huge Housing Works thrift at 143 W 17th St. (bet 6th & 7th)
212.366.0820 Open: Mon-Fri 10AM-7PM. 75% off all clothing Yes! exquisite, very lightly used shirts and blouses, slacks 75% off. Black cotton vests now $2. wool, cotton, linen and silk slacks $2,3,4. The problem -- no suits for men. The answer:

17 West 17th Street This thrift which benefits UJA, and will be closed Thursday for Rosh Hashana, all clothing 75% off, has for example, Frank Stella suits for $10. Some of the clothing is new (tags still on). Unfortunately, the store has a huge selection of samples which, while inexpensive, are not part of this sale.

Sporting Goods? Paragon Sports which is at 867 Broadway (18th Street) is having its Warehouse Sale. (Enter on the South side of 18th Between Broadway & Fifth. Today there were huge quantities of athletic and running shoes in all men's women's and children's which were vastly overpriced (in my view) now 50% off. In addition, specialty cleats and other shoes are also 50% off -- But if you like baseball and need an excellent glove -- go there as soon as you can. $200 fielders mitts were 75% off when I was there. In addition some bikers think they need special tops and bottoms (the bottoms are padded with gel, the tops wick moisture keeping rider dry and have pockets in the back. 60% off. The other items so reduced it was refreshing were winter outdoor pants. With global warming you may not need these, but they are much cheaper than I ever expected to see them (On example: $150 insulated waterproof pants now $30.)
