Immigration Demonstration April, 1; 11AM From Cadman to Federal Plaza

I've been getting emails, as perhaps many of you have, about an immigrants' rights demonstration tomorrow 11AM marching from Cadman Plaza over the Brooklyn Bridge to the Javits Building, 26 Federal Plaza which houses Immigration. I'm told the focus is opposition to the house-passed bill which would make being an illegal immigrant a felony. The issue has divided many progressive people as a quick look at the articles and comments on alternet.org 's front page will show.

A list of sponsors, posted on Politicker and reproduced by me below is, if accurate, pretty impressive. If time, life and sports permit, I plan to go. Rain is predicted but I'm not made of sugar.

[Vito] Lopez [has] a penchant for endorsing Republicans over Democrats. In recent elections, he backed Rudy Giuliani for mayor, and George Pataki for governor. He also backed his longtime ally, former Senator Al D'Amato, against Democrat and fellow Brooklynite Charles Schumer in 1998.
