UPDATE on NYT's Blauxg Pas : The disruptive media edition

The plot thickens people.

I have yet to hear from anybody over at The New York Times or from their most notorious consultant, the blog 'evangelizer' and publisher of Buzzmachine, Jeff Jarvis. Jeff is the same guy that led campaign against Dell for, of all things, ignoring his comments and criticisms about the company.

Irony works in mysterious ways.

The news of my wandering around their blog has been reviewed, newsed, gawked, slated and wired, to say the least. Here's the current list :

Blogger Gets Sneak Peak at New 'NY Times' Politics Blog

I want to do a follow-up experiment. I would like people to submit the story to Boing Boing. And I want to wait and see what happens.

BoingBoing is now managed by a company called Federated Media. Federated Media got an initial round of funding from ...

wait for it ...

wait for it ...

The New York Times.

Let's see if silence from certain bloggers and blogs is due in part to their association to said media giant.

Heh.

As you well know, I am a cons

As you well know, I am a consultant for the company and hardly a spokesman.
But since you ask, I will ask you back whether, when you see an open door at a house, you feel compelled to walk in and leave a mark. If you were truly trying to help, you could have emailed someone. I don't see what you're so proud of.

Welll....

I can't speak for her, but what makes this interesting for so many is that it shows yet again how low the NYT has sunk in recent years. I first noticed how bad their science writing was when years ago they defined RNA as a building block of DNA. Then their whole lousy, wimpy lack of questioning Bush's lies about...well, pretty much EVERYTHING. Then there are the many scandals.

So, in other words, if the NYT wants respect they have to earn it. They have failed to do so for years. Now you are just a consultant, so it isn't your fault. But your defense of them, though worth thinking about, doesn't convince those that are happy to see a David (Liza) show up the rather shoddy and over-rated Goliath (the NYT).

Quotes 2

Sorting out the "truth" may seem a treacherous endeavor in such a politically polarized time. But we believe our journalists can play a greater role as an honest broker for voters bewildered by the barrage of campaign talk.

So in a move rare for a news organization, we're dedicating a team of reporters and researchers to meticulously examine the rhetoric of candidates and their partisans, and then make a call: Is the claim true or not?

You might think such work would be standard journalistic fare. But many news organizations can spend less money and get less grief if their political reporting sticks to stenography and puffery.

It's easier to record the words and claims of competing candidates than to vet their accuracy. It's easier to write about the strategy of using negative advertising than to do the painstaking research to sort out whether the claim is actually true or false.

— Neil Brown, Executive Editor of the St. Petersburg Times, announcing Politifact, a new project to determine whether candidate statements are actually true.
