Fighting Corruption: Showing the Republicans How it's Done
Some time back I discussed a relatively rare case of blatant corruption withing the Democratic Party. Congressman William Jefferson of Louisiana was basically caught red-handed taking a bribe. You can read more about Jefferson's Republican-level corruption here.
But one key contrast I draw between Republican Corruption and Democratic corruption, other than the fact that Republican Corruption is much more widespread, is that Democrats actually fight against their own corrupt members while Republicans just cover it up like the did for six years after finding out that Republican Congressman Foley was a sexual predator. To emphasize this difference, I want to highlight the DEMOCRATIC led effort to oust Congressman Jefferson.
Democrat Karen Carter is running against corrupt Democrat William Jefferson and their battle has gone to a run-off. Here is our chance to show Republicans how to handle corruption. Rather than re-elect corrupt politicians the way Missouri Republicans did with Congressman Blunt and New York Republicans did with Congressman Fossella, we need to vote corrupt Congressman Jefferson out of office.
I urge you to donate to Karen Carter's honorable efforts to defeat the corrupt William Jefferson. Because it is the right thing to do!

Relatively rare case of Democrat corruption?
Specials Interests = Government = Republicans = Democrats. Corruption is neither Republican nor Democrat. It is bi-partisan.
You think there's only this one tiny Louisiana blot on the Democratic party? Haven't you seen--oh, who could possibly remember these NY examples--Hevesi? McLaughlin? Gordon? Norman? People in Brooklyn and the Bronx really too numerous to name?
We need a balanced two-party system and sunshine and fairly drawn districts and a fair accounting of the money in the system (and a whole lot more) to fight corruption. Corruption will hardly end when the last Republican in New York leaves office.
Yes...relatively rare
I have been following corruption in BOTH parties and writing about it. Any attempt to EQUATE the two parties in terms of level of corruption or response to corruption is BS. The scale of Republican corruption is ENORMOUS and the common response of Republicans to corruption within their ranks is to cover it up. Democrats are less corrupt by far, and often it is DEMOCRATS who root out Democratic corruption. My usual case is right here in Brooklyn where there is a REFORM DEMOCRAT movement (never hear of reform Republicans, do ya?) and the Democratic DA convicted the corrupt head of the local Democratic party. You just don't hear about Republicans rooting out their own corruption. And had you been paying attention to this blog, fighting corruption in the Brooklyn Dem party has been one of our man focuses.
So, what you are saying is true in a small way, but your equating the parties in terms of level of corruption, consequences of corruption and reaction to corruption is really just plain wrong.

Jefferson must go
That's really all there is to it. We are better than they are, and this is our chance to prove it.
