Steve Harrison, Vito Fossella's main Democratic opponent, has issued a statement regarding Vito (or is that Vino?) Fossella's Drunk Driving Arrest:

Driving while intoxicated is a very serious charge. Over 17,000 people die every year as a result of such irresponsible and illegal action according to Mothers against Drunk Driving Only 2 days ago MADD held a luncheon at which I was represented. I stand shoulder to shoulder with MADD in its quest to rid our society of this scourge and I certainly hope that all candidates and elected officials from all parties and all places would do the same. As elected officials and potential elected officials we have an obligation to set an example for society. Lawmakers cannot expect the people to follow the laws if they themselves disregard them.

Let's keep this quote in mind when we consider the Republican (or the Vito Lopez or the Clarence Norman...) culture of corruption:

"Lawmakers cannot expect the people to follow the laws if they themselves disregard them."

Goddamned right! As long as our electeds are breaking the law how can we expect our society to be law abiding? We need more upright citizens like Steve Harrison in government as role models.

You can help replace Drunken Vito Fossella with a truly upright citizen, Steve Harrison, by donating through our New York State Act Blue site.

Question for Rep. Fossella

If Rep. Fossella is reckless enough to debate Mr. Harrison, can we ask him about his apology? I must be missing something, but his apology for an "error in judgment" is off the point. He apologized for the "error" that led to the crime, but he did not apologize for the criminal act itself. Actually, bad judgment should be regretted, but lawbreaking should cause repentence, that is, an apology.
