Tom DeLay's Out...Let's Go For the Jugular!

From my Target the Corrupt Republican blog

Randy Cunningham was caught red handed in his corruption. First he dropped out of his re-election bid. Then he left Congress. Now he is doing time. Now Tom DeLay was caught red handed in his corruption. Now he is dropping out of his re-election bid:

From Time via Truthout:

Tom DeLay Says He Will Give Up His Seat

    By Mike Allen

    TIME Magazine

   Monday 03 April 2006

Rep. Tom DeLay, whose iron hold on the House Republicans melted as a lobbying corruption scandal engulfed the Capitol, told TIME that he will not seek reelection and will leave Congress within months. Taking defiant swipes at "the left" and the press, he said he feels "liberated" and vowed to pursue an aggressive speaking and organizing campaign aimed at promoting foster care, Republican candidates and a closer connection between religion and government.

"I'm going to announce tomorrow that I'm not running for reelection and that I'm going to leave Congress," DeLay, who turns 59 on Saturday, said during a 90-minute interview on Monday.

Ding-dong the witch is OUSTED!

But that isn't enough. Like Randy Cunningham, Tom DeLay BROKE THE LAW and he deserves jail time. One by one, we have to bring the Corrupt Halliburton Republicans to justice.

Write a letter to the editor saying "good riddance" to Tom DeLay and suggesting that his next stop should be the same prison cell holding his buddies in corruption, Randy Cunningham and Jack Abramoff. We can't let Tom DeLay slink off to haunt us for years to come. We have to demand that he be tried for his crimes.

Finally, we have to make an effort to replace those who are brought down by corruption with grassroots Democrats. And we HAVE THAT CHANCE.

In just 7 days we have the chance to replace Randy Cunningham with Democracy for America endorsed Democrat Francine Busby. This is the FIRST CONGRESSIONAL ELECTION OF 2006. It would rock big time if we win it. PLEASE donate to her campaign today, or, better yet, Join MoveOn.org's phone banking from home for Busby. Ten or twenty or thirty minutes of your time with your cell phone could win the election for Busby. Please give cash or time to win the first Congressional election of 2006 and to replace corrupt Randy Cunningham with grassroots Francine Busby.

Then, let's make Tom DeLay's seat our next target. And let's aim for EACH AND EVERY seat occupied by a corrupt Republican. I want to introduce you to an Act Blue list someone has put together called 2006 Crooks Out targeting the most corrupt Republicans. Tom DeLay's TX-22 seat is top of that list. Please donate to end Republican Corruption in Congress!

I couldn't agree more on Delay

Make sure he knows there's nowhere he can run and hide from what he's done.

Brighten the corner where you are,

right in the corner where you are. I agree, calling Orange County voters is good. Moveon.org/Political Action has made it easy and pleasant to do. It's especially good because Francine Busby's race, a special election, will be over very soon. Thereafter, I suggest we turn our attention to our home-grown right-wingers: Peter King, Sue Kelly and Vito Fossella

You do know of course...

that I have that all covered on my own Sweep NY State Act Blue Page.

And if you want to focus on Corrupt Republicans right here in NY State, Here's my piece on John Sweeny from my Target the Corrupt Republican blog.

And, for those who want to get involved in Brooklyn, I am co-hosting the Brooklyn New Democratic Majority meetups:

Please join your hosts Marjorie Gersten, David Michaelson and Michael Bouldin on Thursday, April 27th, 7 PM, at Ozzie's Cafe, 249 5th Avenue, between Carroll Street and Garfield Street in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

So I got local fundraising and activism and corrupt Republicans covered.

Let's do it

Between bouts of tapdancing, I'm writing a wire release on Mr. DeLay's timely end.

Sorting out the "truth" may seem a treacherous endeavor in such a politically polarized time. But we believe our journalists can play a greater role as an honest broker for voters bewildered by the barrage of campaign talk.

So in a move rare for a news organization, we're dedicating a team of reporters and researchers to meticulously examine the rhetoric of candidates and their partisans, and then make a call: Is the claim true or not?

You might think such work would be standard journalistic fare. But many news organizations can spend less money and get less grief if their political reporting sticks to stenography and puffery.

It's easier to record the words and claims of competing candidates than to vet their accuracy. It's easier to write about the strategy of using negative advertising than to do the painstaking research to sort out whether the claim is actually true or false.

— Neil Brown, Executive Editor of the St. Petersburg Times, announcing Politifact, a new project to determine whether candidate statements are actually true.
