What New York Democrats are Aiming For: A Sweep?

I read with great fascination the diary outlining the Republican panic in New York. Geez, guys. Can't you figure out that America is fed up with Bush's Culture of Corruption, Greed and Lies? Start repudiating the corruption, the greedy cronyism and the lies, maybe you won't feel so bad!

But the panic may be warrented. An idea has been percolating on the liberal blogshpere that is ambitious, but damned if we shouldn't aim for it. The movement is called "Sweep New York" and aims to sweep the entire Congressional delegation for the Democrats. Can we do it? I don't know. Why don't we find out!

So, I announce to Democrats and panicking Republicans alike the Sweep New York movement. The Republicans are vulnerable in several seats this year. Add to that the extreme unpopularity of Bush and his corrupt Halliburton Republicans, and you have an opportunity, no matter how ambitious, for Democrats to sweep the Republicans out of New York State.

Here I introduce my Sweep New York Act Blue Page. I will point out to all Democrats who read this, if you REALLY want to make the Urban Elephants panic, give your time and money to these Congressional races. And this is only the beginning. The Sweep New York movement will soon be aiming at the State Senate as well.

Aim high, fellow Democrats. This could be our year. The Urban Elephants are panicking and that means I smell blood. I am not the kind to sit back and wait for my enemy to recover. I am the sort to go for the jugular when I see their weakness. So, Urban Elephants. I am aiming high and hoping to sweep Republican greed and cronyism out of NY State.

And if I don't succeed, there is always next time!

Get out the brooms

I have little doubt we will come close if we don't actually sweep NY this year. I really think Dr. Bob Johnson in NY-23 is going to pull an upset over McHugh.

Can you make a list of the Republicans we can sweep out?

And once you make that list we need to cross-post at CK. I can hardly keep up with all the races. Actually ... I would me more than happy to make a chart. I can easily HTML the following :

Congressional District
Geographic Area
GOP Incumbent
"Accomplishments"
DEM Candidates
GOP Candidate

Somewhere in that table I want to stick either a column or an item indicating their pro-choice standing.

What do you think?

See my Act Blue List

You can find the list for Congress at my Act Blue List. I do not know the choice stand of each Democratic candidate...and in some cases there is indeed a primary. My list doesn't aim for the primary but prepares the ground for the general election.

I would love to do a similar list for State Senate, but so far many of the Democrats do not have Act Blue listing, making it harder. However, I will be trying to put something together.

Another part of this, which can really panic the Urban Elephant element, is if we can really help Act Blue Activate the NY Grassroots. So far only $25 has gone to this effort...and their goal is $10,000. Last year, the effort for Virginia's grassroots hit the $10,000 mark. I sure hope we can match Virginia's progressive grassroots!

If you don't beat me to it, I will put something on the Sweep NY Congress list on CK when I have a moment.

Off to a good start!

Since posting we have gotten $575 donated to four NY State Congressional races. Not bad for a couple of days. Maybe this idea is ready to take off! THANKS to all who donate.
