Blogger Says DCCC spreads false rumors about Steve Harrison.
Huffington Post blogger Howie Klein in his other blog, "Down with Tyranny", says the DCCC is spreading false rumors that NY 13th Congressional District Democratic candidate Steve Harrison is dropping out of the primary against Councilman Michael McMahon. The winner faces Republican Frank Powers for the right to replace Vito Fossella. Against Fossella in 2006, Harrison received a higher percentage of the vote than any Democrat ever under the district's current configuration.

Republican consultant Gerry O'Brien in a video interview with Staten Island Advance Political Editor Tom Wrobleski on the publication's polit.bureau blog, discusses why Harrison can beat McMahon, who frequently has taken the Conservative Party line in Council elections, in the September Democratic primary. McMahon also has sought he conservative line in the NY13 Congressional race. O'Brien says that McMahon's pursuit of the Conservative nod will hurt him with progressives, who vote disproportionately in primaries. Harrison has most of the Staten Island/Brooklyn Progressive community behind him. His local and national progressive endorsements include The Staten Island Democratic Association (SIDA), Central Brooklyn Independent Democrats, Progressive Democrats of America, DAPAC, DFNYC, Lambda Independent Democrats, Peace Action, Feminist Gloria Steinem, Former Congressional candidate and Air America Radio host Chris Owens, Democratic Icon Frank Barbaro, Democrats.com President Bob Fertik, 2009 Council candidate Debi Rose, who came within 170 votes of defeating McMahon in the 2001 Democratic primary for his current Staten Island seat and author Norman Solomon. The Conservative party likes McMahon because of his views on the war according to politico. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0608/10801.html

Howie contacted me
Howie contacted me about the rumors. The Harrison campaign did not initiate this. As far as I know, this race was barely on Howie's radar until he received emails mentioning DCCC initiated rumors. Until he contacted me, he was not on my press distribution list. My only previous exposure to his blog was through a list-serv we both subscribe to.

What false rumors?
I read "Howie's blog," and didn't see any specifics. What false rumors, and what's the truth?
The blog mentioned "a rumor" that Harrison had dropped out, but didn't give a source, and certainly didn't link it to the DCCC. Seriously, at this level (or any level, for that matter), if you're going to make an accusation you're far better off limiting the accusation to something with direct evidence to back it up.
