New York National Guard fires gay soldier

Brandon Friedman on Daily Kos picks up a ball played last night on Rachell Maddow, about yet another gay service member removed from the ranks for, as our government phrased it,

This is to inform you that sufficient basis exists to initiate action for withdrawal of Federal Recognition in the Army National Guard. . .for moral or professional dereliction. . .Specifically, you admitted publicly that you are a homosexual, which constitutes homosexual conduct. . .Your actions negatively affected the good order and discipline of the New York Army National Guard.

Here's the video from MSNBC:

Lieutenant Dan Choi is a graduate of West Point, an Iraq veteran, an Arabic linguist - god knows we don't need any of those - and an American citizen. Don't Ask Don't Tell is, as far as I'm aware, the only valid law in this country that requires people to lie to their government, and it singles out only one disfavored constituency: gays.

Can't we do better than this?
