POLL: Should Eliot Spitzer run for public office again and how?
Not going to lie: This bit of news took me by surprise. Not so much because he's interested in running for office again, but because am actually shocked and appalled that he'd want to do so as a Democrat.
This from the New York Post: Former Governor Eliot Spitzer discusses potential campaign in 2010 for state comptroller - NYPOST.com
The Post first reported months ago that Spitzer was looking at a comeback.
Specifically, he had been looking at running for state comptroller or against appointed US Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.
At the time, he gave carefully worded denials about plans to run next year -- but he has continued to discuss the possibility, the Democratic sources said.
One Democratic insider said Spitzer had a heavy lift, given the weight of the scandal.
But the source added that with four of the six statewide officeholders appointed to their posts, things are chaotic.
Those officials "don't have bases of support," said the insider.
Ron over at Air America aptly points out: "Spitzer has an uphill battle. A Marist poll in September found that nearly seven in ten New Yorkers--and 62 percent of. Democrats--do not want Spitzer to seek statewide office".
He's definitely quite the pragmatist because, honestly, the day his resignation was announced was a state-wide day of mourning. Lots of feelings of betrayal that am wanton to think are still rather fresh.
So take the poll and let me know what you think in the comments section.
THE VINES (10-09).
I haven’t done a “grapevines” column in ages so here goes. Too many people are saying that David Paterson needs to step gingerly out of the upcoming gubernatorial race: too many people. I wonder why? If I were David I would be gearing up to run by giving them all the finger; which I suppose he is doing right now. This whole mess was handled wrong from the day Eliot Spitzer selected him for LG. Even though I am not sure David Paterson will get elected as governor, I still think he should run.
I hate it when the so-called “powers that be”, stifle competition amongst candidates and leave the voters with little or no choice (like they have now done with Senator Kirsten Gillibrand). By the way, do you know what Paterson said when he found out that he was selected to be Lieutenant Governor on Spitzer’s ticket? In his trademark jocular manner, I am told he said something to the effect: “surely, they couldn’t have vetted me”. He was right, wasn’t he? LOL. read more »
Oooooh! Juicy Blind Item via Crazy Days and Nights
From Crazy Days and Nights: NY Post Blind Items:
WHICH former elected official has been cheating on her husband? This wife and mother was spotted going into a Midtown hotel with the head of a group pushing school reform, who's also married. Said our source, "Not the first time and not the last time"
My guess after the jump only because it would be hilariously ironic that she was replaced by Vito Fossella. read more »
At the grocery store
I grocery store bills are ridoncuously high due to the assorted allergies we have to manage. My oldest has something in the order of 15 allergy markers; while the little, their father and me have abut 5 allergy markers each. Eggs, nuts and sesame seeds can lead to life threatening reactions.
No wonder I spend most of my week at supermarkets. A loaf of spelt or gluten-free bread is anything between 4 to 7 dollars. Same with cereals and other sundries. So I spend my days shopping online or checking local supermarkets for sales on anything that is wheat free.
Guess what I saw at the supermarket on Avenue A and 4th Street? read more »
PBI, the demotard edition
Sometimes I wish I had gone the route of anonymous blogging so that I could really, really say what's on my mind about all the tards and turds of the Democratic Party --because, you know I already hate all republican politicians.
My dreams of anonymous blogging used to get a wettie everytime I read The Secret Diary of Steve Jobs. fakeSTEVE was outed recently but I just as soon decided to not remember his name. I didn't want to destroy the 'childlike wonder' of his anonymity (this, btw, is one of his running jokes). I'd rather believe realSTEVE would call Microsoft's Steve Ballmer SquirrelBoy or that he'd cast aspersions on open-source software activists and devotees by calling them freetards; as opposed to knowing he's some awesomely snarky writer working for Forbes.com.
Which is why I coined the neologism, demotard. So that I could give a shout out to fakeSTEVE and the freetards when I give you the political blind item of the week :
Which demotard got his manties in bunch last week because I dared to criticize an incumbent, his incumbent, because the incumbent happens to be a Democrat!
The manties wearing human excrescence went as far to use my children to attack me for not sucking up to his free lunch and his office.
The. Douchebag. Went. There. read more »
