Fundraiser for Devin Cohen This Wednesday, August 6

Sorry for two Devin Cohen diaries in one day...but this one is an event coming up this Wed. August 6th. This is your chance to meet Devin in a casual setting. Here are the details:

In a year in which our political attention is largely focused on the race for president, we are writing to ask you to support the local efforts of our good friend Devin P. Cohen who is a candidate for Civil Court Judge in Brooklyn's district 1. This district includes much of downtown Brooklyn, an area in which many of you reside, play, work, and/or love.

Civil Court judges play a critical role in the life of New York City. Many of the litigants who appear in Civil Court can not afford lawyers and must represent themselves and some are also recent immigrants. It is imperative that the judges who hear their cases be patient, intelligent and dedicated. Devin is the right person for the job.

Devin is a good friend of ours and Dave and Saul have known him since they attended high school together. He is smart and hard-working and has been actively involved in the Democratic Party and progressive political causes in Brooklyn for most of his adult life. He will make an excellent judge.

Devin prefers to speak only about his own record and positions, but we believe it is worth noting that his opponent, Roger Adler, has been a consistent donor to the Conservative party and has written an amicus brief against same-sex marriages.

This is a race in which a few hundred votes can make a critical difference. As you know, political campaigns of any variety are expensive undertakings. So, we need to get the word out about Devin's candidacy and those of us who want well-qualified, independent judges must do our part by supporting good candidates.

Therefore, we are hosting a fundraising and volunteer solicitation event at the home of David Gluck this coming Wednesday, August 6th, from 6:30- 8:30 PM (please feel free to arrive later than 6:30 PM if you need to). Some light food and drink will be served. There is no minimum donation, but we hope that after hearing Devin speak you will consider giving $50, $100, $250 or even more to support his campaign, and/or commit to volunteering on or before primary day.

Dave lives at 135 Eastern Parkway, Apt 6G, across the street from the Brooklyn Museum. If you will be joining us this Wednesday, please RSVP to Dave at gluck18_at_gmail.com or 718-638-6179. Donations may be made online at http://www.devincohen.com or at the event on Wednesday. If you would prefer to make your donation online please use the code "135" on the donation page, so that your donation is associated with this event. We hope to see you on Wednesday but if you can not attend, please consider making a donation at online at http://www.devincohen.com.

For further information about Devin and this campaign please also visit his website. Finally, we encourage you to turn out to vote on Primary Day, Tuesday, September 9, 2008.

Many thanks,

David Gluck

Standard disclaimer: Devin Cohen is a high school friend of my wife's and hence a friend of mine. Actually, Saul Kaiserman is also a friend of my wife's from Stuyvesant high school.
