Mass Beheadings Are Not a Worst Case Scenario

This is just so bad.... yet I can't resist....

Finally! A good reason to support the Atlantic Yards! It will increase efficiency of mass beheadings! In any case, this video is certainly a worst case scenario not imagined by the ESDC.

VIDEO - Bill Richardson charms the pants off NYCers

THE DAILY GOTHAM PRESENTS: Bill Richardson

March is an insane month for the amount of political events you can go to. The proof is in the amount of political heavy hitters DL21C was able to wrangle during that month : Jon Kerry, Wesley Clark, John Tester, John Edwards, Bill Richardson. It is also an insane month for the amount of technology and media conferences you can get invited to, the most important (at least for me) being SXSW --but there's eTech and IDPI as well.

I missed almost all the events involving presidential candidates because of the amount of conferences I was involved in during the month of March. Once I was done with my last one, ARC's national conference on "Facing Race", I was free to enjoy a candidate or two by the end of the month. I wasn't able to make it to the John Edwards event (I was having some fun at a party with Nancy Pelosi).

So 3/26 was Bill Richardson's lucky number.

A video message from Craig Johnson

You may have heard about that fundraiser/blograiser we, along with the biggest host committee ever assembled (it seems), are putting together for Craig Johnson this Thursday. Thing is, we really want you to go, and so does the candidate. Here, if you don't believe us, maybe you'll believe him.

The event is happening this Thursday, 6 PM at Prey on 4 West 22nd Street. We're expecting Eliot Spitzer, David Paterson, and roughly between half and a third of the Senate Democrats. Tickets start at $50 and go all the way to $8,500. Want tickets? Sure, get them here.

It'll be fun. Won't you join us?

CD-11 on the issues

Since we've decided to use YouTube and not host these ourselves, the process becomes a bit slow (it's not just as easy as dropping the file into a server). Check this post all throughout the day for clips of Beth Elohim Temple's CD-11 Candidates' Forum.

Rapping the Sea

This one is for my peep, Mole333.

And should we consider it a totally coincidental "easter egg" that the voice of the presenter is the the same as the voice of Trimph the Insult Dog?

Fun with right-wingers

It's entirely appropriate to view the contemporary extreme right wing of the other party as a dark, evil threat to civilization, dangerous to the American Way, and basically inimical to everything that is good and right in this world.

But let's not forget that they can also be funny as hell. I usually point to Ann Coulter as Exhibit "A" when I make this statement - but not anymore. They have outdone themselves. Here's the backstory: there's a RW group known as rightmarch.com that apparently believes that the key to winning the current battle for hearts and minds in America is - drumroll, please - really crappy country/rock music. Hence, they have crafted a song, to be sung by the Right Brothers, titled "Bush was right".

No, I'm not making this up. View Keith Olberman's take on it, courtesy of Crooks and Liars, here.

The Real Cost of Wal-Mart

Wal-Mart No Way's ad is now on the air. The ad, "The Real Costs of Wal-Mart," is airing on NY1, but you can view it here.

And be sure to call Mayor Mike at 311 to say Wal-Mart No Way!

Sorting out the "truth" may seem a treacherous endeavor in such a politically polarized time. But we believe our journalists can play a greater role as an honest broker for voters bewildered by the barrage of campaign talk.

So in a move rare for a news organization, we're dedicating a team of reporters and researchers to meticulously examine the rhetoric of candidates and their partisans, and then make a call: Is the claim true or not?

You might think such work would be standard journalistic fare. But many news organizations can spend less money and get less grief if their political reporting sticks to stenography and puffery.

It's easier to record the words and claims of competing candidates than to vet their accuracy. It's easier to write about the strategy of using negative advertising than to do the painstaking research to sort out whether the claim is actually true or false.

— Neil Brown, Executive Editor of the St. Petersburg Times, announcing Politifact, a new project to determine whether candidate statements are actually true.
