March and rally for fallen firefighters with Norman Siegel
The march will begin at 10 a.m. outside the Old Deutsche Building on Liberty Street and head to City Hall for a rally at 11:30 a.m. Civil Rights Attorney and Public Advocate candidate Norman Siegel will be speaking and is expected to take the stage around noon. Union members and elected officials will also be there.
Joe Graffagnino Sr., the father of one firefighter who died while fighting a fire at the old Deutsche Bank building last August, will be leading the march and rally (Norm Siegel was instrumental in getting the permit). He wants compliance with city safety codes, which he says have been ignored by government agencies and contractors. He believes the stronger safety codes will save other lives. Graffagnino's 33-year-old son, Joseph Jr., and Firefighter Robert Beddia died in the blaze.
