I'm Seriously Considering It!

Promoted by Liza on 23 April.

Dear Friends and Readers of TDG,

Many friends, family, community residents (and sometimes even complete strangers to me) have urged me to run in 2009 for the Council seat of the 14th Councilmanic District (Bronx), which is currently represented by Councilwoman Maria Baez.

I will say, here, for the first time in public, that I am giving it serious consideration and hope to make a decision by August or September of this year.

Many believe that I am related to Jose Rivera (Chair of the Bronx Democratic Party) his son, Joel (NYC Councilmember & Majority Leader) and daughter Naomi (NYS Assemblywoman). While I am not, I do consider myself a friend and I believe that the Bronx, City & State are better thanks to elected officials like Jose, Joel & Naomi. If I decide to run, Without any doubts, I will reach out to them for their support.

In the coming months, I will be reaching out to several unions, elected officials, community leaders and friends and get their take on a possible HAILE RIVERA FOR CITY COUNCIL candidacy.

Thank you for reading this message. If you ahve any questions, please feel free to email them to me at: hailerivera@yahoo.com

Sincerely,

HAILE RIVERA
Bronx resident

Apologies for not noticing this post earlier

I am looking forward to following your journey. Please consider becoming one of our contributors, so you can record with us every single step of the way. I have already asked Steve Behar, who is also running for City Council in Queens. I'd love to have prospective candidates from all boroughs writing about their trials and tribulations

Most people never get a chance to see the whole process or to even know anything about the candidates until their names appear on the ballot. It's one of the reasons why I created TDG, as an open platform for New Yorkers of all kinds --from incumbents, candidates and community leaders to the regular private citizen-- to learn more about how politics are wrought in the city and the state.

So I am really excited about your posting here and am looking forward to hearing more about your efforts.

OK

I think you should run. We need new faces, new ideas, just anything new.

Progressive Districts

Only in New York

Jackson has a long history with one of Obama's chief rivals, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and her husband former President Clinton. He counseled the two when the president's affair with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky became public.

But Jackson said his history with the Clintons doesn't complicate his decision to back his home state senator, calling Obama Illinois' "favorite son."

"It's not awkward at all," he said, adding, "I don't owe a debt to any of them."
