Scorsese *finally* wins a frigging Oscar
He should have gotten one for Raging Bull, for Taxi Driver, for Gangs of New York; but last night, the Academy finally gave in and gave Martin Scorsese his Oscar.
I say, what took you so long?
On a related note, was this the most international awards show in living memory, or what? Was the Academy trying to apologize to the rest of the world for certain recent, cough George Bush cough, offenses to every other country on earth?
Oh and, forget about Al Gore running; not with those extra pounds, Mister.

Begging to differ (just a little)
For Raging Bull, maybe. For Taxi Driver, absolutely. But Gangs of New York was too obviously aimed at getting an Oscar, as was his next film, The Aviator.
I haven't seen The Departed, so I can't comment on it. From what I've heard about it, I'm reminded of my comment after seeing The Aviator -- that he needed to stop making films designed to win an Oscar and go back to making the films he does best. Apparently, he did just that ... and look where it got him.

Regarding Al Gore, I still say that his popularity will last up to, and not past, that moment when he announces his candidacy. Run away, Al, run away.
