The Week I Missed

So I was out of town all week. Attened my Company's Sales Meeting in Mobile Alabama. Mobile is a City that lives in their church and believes what is preached on Sunday is what you should believe without question. The people are nice but you walk on eggshells when it comes to politics so it's best you stay away from the subject (hey, I need my paycheck).

This week it was a little impossible for me to do that. When the story first broke about Spitzer on Monday the little free time I had (and believe me it was VERY little) I had CNN on and several of us got reports from family and friends. I am furious with Spitzer for not only paying for sex but for getting caught. What kind of a jerk who knows that large withdrawls are traced would think he's above the law and transfer large sums to a prostitute ring? I actually want to kick him for this. Spitzer had to know that Wall Street and the Republican Party were on his tail with ever sneeze and he allowed himself to get caught. Did he have a death wish to distroy his career because this is what he did. Not only that (and I hope this is not going to happen), when we're 1 seat away from taking control of the Senate he gives Bruno and the Republican Party the upper hand! I hope that this doesn't come back and bite us in November.

Anyway, about Tuesday afternoon I began to hear little remarks about Spitzer and on Wednesday when Spitzer finally resigned 2 Vice Presidents were laughing about it. They made several comments and I felt (good Dem that I am) that they should realize that what Spitzer did was wrong but what some Republicans did was either just as wrong or worse. Spitzer (as long as he didn't use campaign contributions) participated in a crime that didn't have a victim, while others have. At least it wasn't a 14 year old House Page. I also think about my own Congressman, Vito Fossella, who used campaign contributions for his family vacation and only got a slap on the wrist. Why wasn't he proscuted?

I'm glad Spitzer resigned and we have 8 months until the November elections to rebuild and get control of the Senate. Patterson, I hope, will be more respected and we won't lose any seats in either state house but build on that. The NYS Dems have a lot of work to do.
