Jackson has a long history with one of Obama's chief rivals, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and her husband former President Clinton. He counseled the two when the president's affair with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky became public.
But Jackson said his history with the Clintons doesn't complicate his decision to back his home state senator, calling Obama Illinois' "favorite son."
"It's not awkward at all," he said, adding, "I don't owe a debt to any of them."

Who, do you think, is for Harrision?
I've looked at the Staten Island Advance coverage here and here and I see no indication that Harrison has been able to get the support of unions, elected officials, political organizations. If its just us chickens who're interested in Harrison, where stands Citizen Action of New York etc? Where stands former DA (and the only county-wide Democrat) Bill Murphy? I assume from all that's been written here and elsewhere, that Harrison has had a few months to line up a few ducks -- where are they?
Many people have great hopes for this campaign this year. How can it be different from 2006? Will there be more of a role for volunteers? Will Harrison be meeting with electeds and political groups in other areas to ask for support?
Further, in the SI Advance, at least, Harrison's program is not getting out. How can that be addressed? This could and should be one of the races in NYC which could make a difference both in DC and Albany -- since a vigorous progressive race there might well help elect an additional Democratic state senator.
Ummm...
Harrison just announced. Up until now this hasn't been a race. So why expect endorsements one day after he announces!
Last year Harrison got many good endorsements and even the expected Staten Island Advance endorsement of Vito spent far more time praising Harrison and dissing Vito than actually endorsing Vito.
Last year Harrison got into the race last minute and the DNC and DCCC had no interest until the last weeks. And yet Harrison, with only $100,000, came closer than anyone had ever come before to winning this.
This time around Harrison is getting in early and the DNC and DCCC are already eyeing the race as a possible win. That will mean more money.
That is the difference. And it will be a huge difference.
